In the Upper range, Gordon & MacPhail bottles extra old whiskies under the Connoisseurs Choice label. This Longmorn is another great example of that. After distillation in 1990, it matured for thirty long years on refill bourbon barrel # 30006. Bottling took place on 19 January 2021. This yielded just 96 bottles with a cask strength of 47.0%. The whisky has been given batch number 21/014. We offer this whisky at a very competitive price.

The name Longmorn comes from the farm of the same name, where they started distilling whisky. Longmorn translated from English means "long morning", but in Gaelic the meaning of the name is "Holy Spring". The distillery was founded in 1894 by John Duff with his two partners. Before that, John Duff had already founded Glenlossie and built the Benriach distillery in 1897. Due to the recession in the trade, John Duff had to surrender all his property to the bank to pay his debts and The Longmorn Distilleries Ltd. was taken over by James Grant, who managed Hill Thomson & Co, among others the producer of the blends Something Special and Queen Anne. When the distillery started operating in 1894, there were four stills, this was expanded to six in 1972 and by the year 1974 it became eight. So now there are four wash stills and four spirit stills in the stillhouse, which are heated by steam. Malting had been done at Benriach for years until recently. The eight washbacks that were made of Oregon pine were replaced by stainless steel washbacks in 1995. Sherry, bourbon and refill casks are used to mature the malt. The water used to make the malt comes from various water sources in the forests that are in there immediate vicinity. Cooling water for the condensers is taken from the stream that runs right past the distillery. The firm Speyside character of Longmorn's malt makes it very popular with blenders. Longmorn Distillery's malt has been called "Speyside's best kept secret". Longmorn is now owned by the Chivas & Glenlivet Group, which are part of the Pernod/ Ricard Group. A big part of Longmorn's success is its location on the edge of the most important area for grain, namely the Larch o'Moray, which is known for its micro climate and fertile soil. There is also plenty of peat available from the "Foggie Loans" in the immediate vicinity of Mannoch Hill.
